Customer specific fields

In order to cover customer-specific requirements, TimePunch also allows you to define your own fields for each master data record.

This makes it possible to query these fields in customer-specific reports and use them for printouts or reports.

Custom fields can be created via the "Tools / Custom fields" dialog.

The main reason for creating customer-specific fields is the possibility of evaluating them in reports created especially for the customer.

Customer-specific fields can be created for the following master data types:

  • Time entries
  • Employees
  • Projects
  • Activities
  • Customers
  • Teams
  • Departments
  • Subsidiaries
  • Monthly statements

Edit custom fields

To create a new field in the dialog, the "Add" button must be printed. This opens the following dialog.

The red marked fields are mandatory fields.

Group name

The group name is used to group fields together. For example, the group "Travel expenses" could contain all fields that specify the travel expenses more precisely. For example, kilometers, city, etc.

Display name

The display name is displayed in the TimePunch interface, as an identifier, in front of the actual field.

Field name

The field name is a technical identifier that is used internally for evaluation and reporting. The field name may only consist of letters and numbers and may not contain spaces or special characters.

Unit

The unit is displayed behind the input field. In the case of distance, this could be the unit "km", for example.

Permissions (View / Edit)

The set permission defines which permission an employee needs to view or edit the field.

Field type

The field type can be used to specify what type of data the user can enter. Here you can choose between the following types.

  • Text
  • Integer
  • Floating point
  • Single selection
  • Multiple selection
  • Date
  • Time
  • Date and time
  • Time span
  • Yes / No

Default value

Depending on the selected field type, a value can be specified that is displayed as a template for new entries.

The default value also automatically applies to existing master data records.

Special case, customer-specific fields in time entries

The fields for time entries are handled separately for customer-specific fields. Fields for time entries are displayed in all client modules and can be edited there.

This is especially true for TimePunch Management, TimePunch Watcher, TimePunch Studio and TimePunch Online.
